AcuSiS® (Accurate Sip in Second)is a drinking straw-like device designed to facilitate oral ingestion of pharmaceutical granules or pellets for pediatric and geriatric patients who have difficulty in swallowing large size tablets and capsules. The "Fill and Finish" device with a characteristic feature of dynamic mixing allows patients to ingest the pharmaceutical granules or pellets in a blinking of an eye, thereby greatly improving administration of medicine products to patients, especially to the preschool children who usually experience medication phobia.
Figure 3 is the configuration of the device.

Figure 4 demonstrates how AcuSiS® enables easy and convenient dosing to patients. Due to its camouflage feature, AcuSiS® can be considered as a sugar-coating delivery platform to solve medication phobia usually experienced by pediatrics patients when using other dosage forms, including solution, suspension and ODT et al.

Similar to a dosing cup or a spoon for dosing of suspension, AcuSiS® is also designed to deliver the granules to the patients. The granules in AcuSiS® will be dispersed in-situ during sipping with water. As agreed upon by US FDA, AcuSiS® can serve as a container closure system. Hence Type III Packaging Material DMFs have been submitted for AcuSiS®.
AcuSiS® has the following advantages:
l Overcomes swallowing difficulties for the elderly and children;
l Easy to use, especially for patients with medication phobia;
l Rapid absorption and onset of action;
l Lower variability of drug dissolution and absorption when combined with an optimized granule formulation;
l Immediate use without the need for preparation and special storage, reducing the burden on patients or carers;
l Using existing granules or pellets and a “Fill and Finish” process, easy implementation of the pediatric study plan required by regulatory authorities;
l Very cost effective, fast track to commercialization with great potential to extend product patent protection.
